THE IDEA OF ESTABLISHING AN ASMR MUSEUM

WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: The World of ASMR (13 MAY – 10 APRIL 2023 // The Design Museum, London)  Many people today need to watch and listen to ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) videos to reduce their anxiety, mostly to sleep, or even to relax or focus on one thing . Watching and listening, these two must be at the same time , this part is important. In fact, what people listen to in ASMR videos is not classical music or a relaxing rhythm. There is no nature scene or music, only the sounds of that video's content, for example comb sound, scissors sound, daily life sounds according to the content of the video. These videos are most viewed and watched on Japanese and Korean content via Youtube. For example long whispered talk, playing with hair, slight crackling sound when candles are burning, water sound, tape sound, clicking sound coming out of hard floor where nails touch, comb sound while combing hair... In the focus, they create content that creates a feeling like...

MUSEUMS QUESTION THE FUTURE

Museums are thinking about the future . They think together with all scenarios and all thought patterns . Museums are thinking, looking for solutions, discussing and researching.   Museums have many responsibilities, so it is somewhat impossible to fit into a definition. Especially, it is very thought-provoking to define and frame the museums of the future : For example, will museums physically host visitors or will they be needed? What percent of museum professionals will work as human and what percent as robots? Will every museum be able to prepare themselves for virtual reality environments? Will each museum be able to present new technologies to its visitors? Will they be able to align their mission and vision, even before their collection? What do we understand by sustainable museum architecture and a sustainable museum? Do museum laboratories actually transform themselves while preparing humanity for the future? While climate activists continue their actions in museums, wil...

MASTERS DEGREES IN MUSEUM STUDIES

+ "I WANT TO BECOME A MUSEOLOGIST!" - "THEN, BE ONE OF THEM!" When we examined the academic programs for Museology , we realized that they were directed to some programs that are not related to   Museology or that do not fully cover the competencies of the discipline. What does this mean? In the lists of master programs, those who want to be museologists; we have seen that it is equipped with programs such as curatorial studies, art gallery management, art consultancy, art history, archeology, sociology, etc. which are among the stakeholders of museology but do not cover museology as the only discipline. Museology is one of the academic programs that includes many disciplines. A  museologist must be versatile. It's not enough just to be an expert in curatorial scenarios or just know art history. A museologist can be an architect, an engineer, an art historian, sometimes an art consultant, sometimes a corporate communicator, sometimes an exhibition specialis...

One logo.  Would you take a huge risk on the unknown one?  Who do you work with? Museums, their logos, their designers and their stories of creation... How hard to find most of them. Why is it so hard? Why do museums avoid explaining the creation process of their corporate identities as they transition to digitalization? Well, at least we talked about it.  There is a website like this: Museum World Ranking   where you can vote for museums and see their ranking according to various categories, you can also check some current news. We preferred the list according to the "rank...

GAME CHANGERS OF THE MET GALA

Thomas Hoving, Eleanor Lambert, Diana Vreeland... you recognize them?  It all glamorous started when Thomas Hoving was the Met's director. Well... The appointment of Hoving as the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is shown as the most obvious example of the transition to the audience-centered museum.  Hoving's view of the museum as a place of mass entertainment made The Met one of the most arrogant and commercial museums of its time during his tenure between 1967 and 1977. He has often stated that instead of thinking about the exhibitions he has chosen, he focuses on the sensation and interest they will bring as a result. The important thing for him was to be flamboyant, to be remarkable and to create a bombshell. That's what happened. It was quite important to him that the display of works of art was a show, as he wanted to exhibit them in galleries with bright fabrics, bright colors (turquoises, reds, purples...) and giant banners with gold inscriptions also ...

FROM THE PAST TO NOW: THE LONDON MUSEUM

Upcoming Museum: The London Museum (formerly known as Museum of London). Be Lean - Be Clean - Be Green - Be Londoner! The closing of The Museum of London marks en of an era but also re-opening of the museum says a lot! The London Museum is already the new black ! As museologists, we are excited about the strategic process of the museum, which is planned to open in 2026, and the publication of the project's progress on the official website of the Museum of London! We are partnering in the transformation of an important museum and this time we have a chance to follow the process! We will be able to observe not only the architecture and design part, but also the sustainability of a museum and all the possibilities it wishes to offer for its visitors. One of the main striking elements, the fact that the museum is not in a new building or a palace or mansion as we are used to in museum identities in London, but in an area to be revived like a phoenix in the area where the old market p...

MUSEUMS AGAINST THE CLIMATE CHANGE

국립현대미술관 In April 2022, Youn Bummo , director of  The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) , published a strategic report in which they announced the 2022-2024 vision for MMCA . In this report, it is stated that during the next 50 years, museums will have to keep up with the pace of society and it is necessary to be ready for a sustainable transformation. They gathered the focal points of this transformation under four main headings: "Expansion and Connection, K-art, Ecological Museum and Digital Innovation". It is underlined here that what is envisaged in the report for the MMCA is an "open museum". There is talk of an "open museum" that will serve as an intercultural bridge, not only for Korea, but also internationally and the virtual world -the metaverse-.  "An open museum that bridges regions, generations, and the world." MMCA's  The Museum-Carbon-Project  2022.8.19-10.30. The Museum-Carbon-Project, which was opened...
